#WCCHoops Week Three Promises Excitement

  • Gonzaga’s Georgia Stirton was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week: http://bit.ly/1OvCKUP

  • Three West Coast Conference programs were highlighted by Charlie Creme in his first Bracketology projection of the season for ESPN. Gonzaga was projected as an 11-seed, BYU as a 12-seed and Saint Mary’s as one of the second four teams out. 
  • Gonzaga was selected as an honorable mention for the NCAA.com National Team of the Week after the Zags earned wins against San Francisco and Santa Clara to climb atop the WCC standings at 4-0.
  • Three West Coast Conference student-athletes rank within the top 11 in the country in total points scored this season. BYU’s Lexi Rydalch is third with 323 points. San Francisco’s Taylor Proctor is fifth with 304 points, and San Diego’s Malina Hood is 11th with 293 points.
  • The West Coast Conference finished non-conference play with a 10-15 record against the Power 5 conferences, finishing with winning records against the ACC (1-0), Big Ten (1-0) and Big 12 (2-1) while also earning victories against the Pac-12 (5-11) and SEC (1-3).
  • Loyola Marymount junior Leslie Lopez-Wood became the Lions’ all-time three-point scorer last week when she drained her 171st career 3.
  • BYU senior All-American Lexi Rydalch ranks fifth among active Division I scoring leaders (2,065 points). Rydalch is in the top 10 in multiple active career offensive categories, including games (123/4th), field goals (699/8th), field goal attempts (1,622/4th), free throws (491/3rd) and free throw attempts (644/2nd).
  • Rydalch was named the College Sports Madness Player of the Week
  • Rydalch became the fourth WCC student-athlete to crack 2,000 career points in the WCC opener at San Diego. The league’s all-time scoring leader is Loyola Marymount’s Alex Cowling (2008-13) with 2,219 points. Gonzaga All-American Courtney Vandersloot (2007-11) is third at 2,073 points.
