TOURNAMENT SEEDING: The seeding and brackets for the 2016 West Coast Conference Basketball Championships will be unveiled on Sunday, February 28.

BREAKING THE TIE
Should there be a tie in the final regular season standings, the following will be used to break the tie for tournament seeding purposes:
1) Head-to-head results
2) Results vs. other teams in descending order of finish
3) RPI (Collegiate Basketball News RPI)
*In the case of multiple ties, the one which can be resolved

  • In the latest Lunardi ESPN Bracketology, Gonzaga is a No. 11 seed in a play-in game, while Saint Mary’s is a No. 11. (As of 2/22/16.)
  • The West Coast Conference is 12th in conference RPI according to the latest KenPom rankings (2/22/16) behind the Missouri Valley (11th) and ahead of the Mid-American (13th).
  • According to the current KenPom rankings, the West Coast Conference ranks third nationally in efficiency (106.9). 
  • Saint Mary’s ranks in the top-five among Division I leaders in multiple team offensive categories: field goal percentage (1st/50.8%) and assist/turnover (1st/1.73) and fifth in scoring margin (14.7) and 3-point field goal percentage (42.0). 
  • The Gaels rank fifth nationally among Division I leaders in scoring defense (60.2 ppg).
  • Gonzaga ranks second nationally in 3-point field goal percentage defense (28.2), eighth in defensive rebounds (29.32),23rd in field goal percentage (48.2), 13th in scoring margin (13.6) and 19th in rebound margin (7.9).
    BYU ranks seventh nationally among Division I scoring leaders (84.0 ppg) and 12th in rebounds (41.48).

WEST COAST CONFERENCE BASKETBALL QUICK HITS

  • Gonzaga senior forward Kyle Wiltjer was named Preseason National Player of the Year by CBSSports.com and is on the Wooden Late Season Top-20 list. 
  • BYU’s Kyle Collinsworth is a finalist for the Bob Cousy Award  (top point guard), while Gonzaga’s Kyle Wiltjer is on the midseason  list for the Oscar Robertson Award (National Player of the Year) and is a Karl Malone Award Finalist (top power forward). Gonzaga’s Domantas Sabonis is a finalist for the Kareem Abdul Jabaar (top center).
  • Gonzaga’s Wiltjer* ranks 21st among active career Division I scoring leaders (1,760). Pepperdine’s Stacy Davis ranks 22nd (1,733 points) while Santa Clara’s Jared Brownridge (30th/1,641) and BYU’s Collinsworth (42nd/1,582) also crack the top-45.
  • BYU’s Collinsworth ranks eighth nationally among active career rebound leaders (976), while Pepperdine’s Davis is 11th (949).
  • Two WCC student-athletes rank in the top-30 among active career assists leaders. BYU senior guard Kyle Collinsworth ranks fifth nationally (636). Portland junior Alec Wintering is 29th (457). 
  • San Diego senior center Jito Kok ranks seventh among active career Division I blocked shots leaders (261). 
  • BYU’s Chase Fischer ranks eighth among active career Division I 3-pointer leaders (190/3.06), while Santa Clara’s Brownridge is ninth (270/2.90). Saint Mary’s Emmett Naar leads the nation in in 3-point accuracy (47.9%) and Brownridge is 30th (42.1%).

 *Wiltjer’s NCAA career tally includes two seasons at Kentucky (535 points)

SAN BRUNO, Calif. — The 2016 West Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Championship bracket has been revised to a nine-team format. The WCC membership reconfigured its men’s basketball tournament bracket due to University of the Pacific’s withdrawal from the 2016 conference championship. The complete 2016 men’s tournament bracket is available at the link above.
