  • The West Coast Conference finished non-conference play with a flourish, posting a 15-4 slate (78.9%) from Dec. 14-28.

  • Saint Mary’s leads Division I in multiple team offensive categories: field goal percentage (1st/53.1%) and assist/turnover (1st/2.02). SMC is also third in 3-point field goal percentage (44.6%), sixth in assists per game (19.4) and fourth in scoring margin (20.8). 
  • Portland ranks sixth in 3-pointers (175) and eighth in 3-point attempts (465). Saint Mary’s ranks 17th in rebound margin (9.5), second in scoring defense (57.8) and 22nd in field goal defense (38.6%). 

WEST COAST CONFERENCE BASKETBALL HIGHLIGHTS

  • Gonzaga senior forward Kyle Wiltjer was named Preseason National Player of the Year by CBSSports.com. 
  • In the latest Lunardi ESPN Bracketology, No. 25/21 Gonzaga is a No. 7 seed; Saint Mary’s is a No. 9. (As of 1/11/16.)
  • Three WCC student-athletes cracked 2015-16 preseason major individual awards watch lists. BYU’s Kyle Collinsworth is on the Bob Cousy Award list (top point guard), Gonzaga’s Przemek Karnowski is on the Kareem Abdul-Jabaar Award list (top center) and Gonzaga’s Kyle Wiltjer is on the Karl Malone Award list (top power forward).
  • Pepperdine senior forward Stacy Davis ranks 23rd among active career Division I scoring leaders (1,534 points). Gonzaga’s Kyle Wiltjer* (25th/1,517), Santa Clara’s Jared Brownridge (35th/1,431) and BYU’s Kyle Collinsworth (41st/1,394) also crack the top-45.
  • BYU senior guard Kyle Collinsworth ranks eighth nationally among active career rebound leaders (879), while Pepperdine’s Davis is 12th (843).
  • Two WCC student-athletes rank in the top-25 among active career assists leaders. BYU senior guard Kyle Collinsworth ranks sixth nationally (555). Portland junior Alec Wintering is 25th (413). 
  • San Diego senior center Jito Kok ranks seventh among active career Division I blocked shots leaders (235). 
  • BYU senior guard Chase Fischer ranks fourth among active career Division I 3-pointer leaders (158/3.10), while Santa Clara junior guard Jared Brownridge is fifth (240/2.89). Brownridge is 21st among active career leaders in 3-point accuracy (42.3%), Portland senior Bryce Pressley is 28th (42.0%) and Gonzaga senior Kyle Wiltjer is 29th (41.9%).

*Wiltjer’s NCAA career tally includes two seasons at Kentucky (535 points)
