SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named its Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for February 8, 2016.
WEST COAST CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – ALEC WINTERING, JR., G - PORTLAND
Junior guard Alec Wintering averaged 24.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 6.5 assists in leading the Portland Pilots to a road sweep over Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount last week. The Charlotte, N.C. native scored 19 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out six assists in Portland's 73-70 upset win over Pepperdine on Thursday. He drilled the go-ahead three-pointer with the Pilots trailing by one and 1:06 left in regulation to hand the Waves their first home loss of the season.
Wintering then erupted for 29 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in a 92-78 win at LMU. Wintering shot 59 percent from the field, made 7-of-12 three-pointers and 7-of-8 free throws in the two victories. The road sweep was the first for the Pilots over Pepperdine and LMU since 2009.
