SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named its Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for December 28, 2015.
WEST COAST CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – ALEC WINTERING, JR., G – PORTLAND
Junior point guard Alec Wintering led the Pilots to a 2-0 start to West Coast Conference play with home wins against Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine. Wintering averaged 21.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game in the two victories. He erupted for a career-high 34 points in Wednesday’s win over Pepperdine on 11-of-15 shooting from the field. He was 3-for-3 from three-point range and 9-for-13 at the foul line. He added four rebounds and three assists in the game.
Against LMU Wintering overcame a pair of early fouls to finish with eight points, three rebounds and six assists in 19 minutes of action. Over the two games, Wintering shot 67 percent from the field, made 3-of-4 three-pointers and 11-of-15 free throws. The 2-0 WCC start is the first since the 2006-07 season.
