WCC Announces Rawlings Pitcher/Player of the Week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- With the 2011 baseball season in full swing and the regular seasons for the winter sports complete, the West Coast Conference is pleased to announce its WCC Rawlings Player and Pitcher of the Week.
Rawlings Player of the Week
In game one vs. Dayton - a 9-1 win - Kain reached base four times on three singles and a hit by pitch, scored three runs and stole bothsecond and third base in the third inning. He also drove in the Waves' ninth and final run on an infield hit. Kain kept his hitting streak going in a game two 3-1 defeat to Dayton, singling and scoring the Waves' lone run. Pepperdine's offense sprang back to life in game three vs. the Flyers - an 8-6 win - with Kain driving in the game-tying run (5-5) as part of the Waves' four-run sixth. He added an insurance run in the eighth.

Rawlings Pitcher of the Week
Coming off his first career complete-game victory against the University of Notre Dame March 19, Gonzales (3-2) carried that momentumagainst the Anteaters (14-6). He struck out six, walked two and scattered four hits to earn his first shutout and help the Bulldogs (13-7-1) sweep the Anteaters in their long-awaited home debut.
Gonzales struggled in the first inning. He allowed a leadoff single and after retiring the next two batters, he loaded the bases on a single and a walk. He got out of the first inning with a fly out to Moon in left field. He would then hold Anteater runners at first base the rest of the game.
