Portland's Knutson (Pitcher) and Saint Mary's Thoreson (Player) Collect Rawlings WCC Weekly Honors
Knutson Yields Just Two Singles In 4.0 Scoreless; Thoreson Slugs .824 With Three Multi-Hit Games
SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named its Rawlings Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week for April 16, 2018.
WEST COAST CONFERENCE RAWLINGS PITCHER OF THE WEEK – CONNOR KNUTSON, SO., RHP - PORTLAND
Sophomore righthander Connor Knutson had a stellar week on the mound, picking up a pair of saves and a win as the Pilots went 3-1 against Oregon and BYU. On Monday night, Knutson tossed 2.0 innings of relief, striking out three and allowing only one hit as the Pilots toppled the Ducks 9-7 in 11 innings in Eugene. Knutson then collected two saves as the Pilots won a conference series over BYU for the first time ever. On Thursday night, Knutson notched a pair of strikeouts and didn’t yield a hit as the Pilots opened the series with a 4-3 win. Then on Saturday, Knutson picked up the save again as the Pilots clinched the three-game set with an 8-6 victory.
His final line for the week included only two hits, both singles, in 4.0 scoreless innings, and the sophomore right-hander claimed five K’s. He now has four saves on the year, is 3-1 overall, and boasts a sparkling ERA of 2.19. He also has 32 strikeouts in 24.2 total innings, and opponents are batting only .189 against him.

WEST COAST CONFERENCE RAWLINGS PLAYER OF THE WEEK – JACKSON THORESON, SR., C - SAINT MARY’S
Senior catcher Jackson Thoreson slugged .824 while batting .471 and carrying a .550 on-base percentage in four games last week, helping lead Saint Mary's to a 3-1 record and a series win on the road at San Diego.
Thoreson logged three multi-hit games during the week, tallied RBIs in every game and scored eight runs. He scored a career-high 4 runs in the Gaels' series-clinching win at San Diego, scoring every time he reached base with two hits and two walks. He had three hits in the series opener Friday with an RBI and a double. Thoreson also scored three runs with two extra-base hits - a home run and a double - in a non-conference win over Mountain West Conference leader Nevada on Monday.
