SAN BRUNO, Calif. --The West Coast Conference announced its Rawlings Pitcher and Player of the Week for May 2, 2011.
Rawlings WCC Pitcher of the Week
Ryan Carpenter, Gonzaga, Jr., LHP
One week after pitching his first complete-game, Ryan Carpenter went the distance again and flirted with a no-hitter in Gonzaga's 8-0 win over Santa Clara Friday. Carpenter (6-1) was perfect for six innings but lost it in the seventh after allowing a leadoff walk followed by a single. He finished the evening striking out nine and scattering five hits.

Rawlings WCC Player of the Week
Aritz Garcia, San Francisco, Jr., SS
USF shortstop Aritz Garcia hit .533 in four games for the Dons with a .667 slugging percentage. The junior totaled eight hits, two doubles, two RBIs, two walks, two sacrifice bunts and a steal to lead the Dons to 4-0 last week. He was error free in 41 innings of baseball with 12 assists and three put outs. Garcia recorded multiple hits in three of the four games, including a three-hit game against Loyola Marymount on Saturday, April 30.
