Codie Paiva (Pitcher) & Niko Pacheco (Player) of LMU Sweep Rawlings Weekly Honors

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named its Rawlings Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week for May 21, 2018. These are the final weekly honors of the 2018 season.

WEST COAST CONFERENCE RAWLINGS PITCHER OF THE WEEK – CODIE PAIVA, JR., RHP – LOYOLA MARYMOUNT 
Junior righthander Codie Paiva dealt his second complete-game shutout of the year on Friday night, helping the Lions to secure a 7-0 victory in the first game of a three-game sweep that ultimately punched a ticket to Stockton and the WCC Championship Tournament. Paiva allowed just three hits and two walks while striking out five en route to going the distance on Friday night.

The right-hander threw 108 pitches to match his shutout effort on March 1 at Hawaii. The native of Pearl City, Hawaii managed to string together two separate runs of retiring 10 straight batters, and he faced one over the minimum over his final five frames. Paiva improved to 6-5 on the year with the victory.

WEST COAST CONFERENCE RAWLINGS PLAYER OF THE WEEK – NIKO PACHECO, SR., C – LOYOLA MARYMOUNT 
Senior catcher Niko Pacheco guided LMU to a 3-1 week that included a series sweep over Saint Mary’s that punched LMU’s ticket to the WCC Championship Tournament. Pacheco hit .667 over the four games, finishing the week 10-for-15 with three runs scored, two doubles, two home runs and five RBI to post a .688 on-base percentage and a 1.200 slugging percentage.

Pacheco hit safely in all four games, including posting multiple hits in each of the contests against Saint Mary’s. Pacheco went 9-for-12 (.750) with three runs scored, two doubles, two homers and five RBI in the series against the Gaels. He opened the series with a 2-for-3 night on Friday before going 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI on Saturday. In a must-win game for LMU on Senior Day Sunday, Pacheco posted a career-best 4-for-5 day that included a pair of solo home runs to guide LMU to victory.
