Abbott Headlines Three WCC All-Americans

SAN BRUNO, Calif.- Three West Coast Conference baseball student-athletes were named to the 2017 Collegiate Baseball All-American team on Tuesday. Loyola Marymount junior and WCC pitcher of the year Cory Abbott earned first team honors, Gonzaga junior pitcher Eli Morgan earned second team honors, and Saint Mary's freshman designated hitter/pitcher Kevin Millam earned a third team selection. 

This marks the second straight year that the WCC has had three players named All-Americans and the second straight year that a pitcher has been on the first team. 

This is the first All-American selection for all three student-athletes. 

Cory Abbott- 1st team- RHP- Loyola Marymount- COMPLETE RELEASE

Abbott went 11-2 with a 1.74 ERA over 15 starts this year, guiding LMU to its first WCC Championship since 2000. The right-hander logged 98.1 innings and struck out 130 hitters while limiting the opposition to just 61 hits and a .173 average against. The highlight of Abbott's season came on March 25 when he tossed the first perfect game in LMU and West Coast Conference history, defeating BYU by a score of 2-0. The perfect game was one of two complete game shutouts thrown by Abbott this season. In nine conference starts, Abbott went 8-0 with a 0.27 ERA, lowest in WCC baseball history.

Eli Morgan- 2nd team- RHP- Gonzaga- COMPLETE RELEASE

Morgan went 10-2 with a 2.86 ERA in 2017, striking out 138 batters in 100.2 innings of work. His strikeout total is the third-highest in the nation and second-highest ever by a Zag pitcher in a single season. He also led the West Coast Conference and was eighth in the country with 12.34 strikeouts per nine innings, and he's one of only four Division I pitchers with multiple outings of 15 strikeouts this year. Morgan finished among the WCC's top five in complete games, ERA, hits allowed per nine, strikeouts, strikeouts per nine, strikeout-to-walk ratio, wins, and WHIP.

Kevin Millam- 3rd team- DH/P- Saint Mary's- COMPLETE RELEASE

Milam led the Gaels with 12 home runs and 55 RBIs while hitting .313 and slugging a team-best .547. He was also excellent on the mound. Early in the season he racked up nine saves and was ranked as high as No. 2 in the country in the category. He finished the year with those nine saves, a 3-1 record and 2.27 ERA in 39 2/3 innings pitched. He struck out 31 and only walked 11 while limiting opponents to a .191 batting average.
