SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- Conference battles resume in the West Coast Conference on Thursday night, including a key showdown in Spokane as BYU (4-1) plays at No. 10 Gonzaga (4-0). Also Thursday, Pepperdine plays at Loyola Marymount in a Wells Fargo PCH Cup showdown.
WCC QUICK HITS
In the latest NCAA RPI report (Jan. 21), the WCC has four teams in the Top 100: Gonzaga (9), BYU (42), Saint Mary's (62), and Santa Clara (88).
Home court advantage certainly helps, but it doesn't mean everything. Entering this week's play, the home team has won just 12 of 24 WCC games in 2013.
The West Coast Conference is the only Division I conference featuring four teams ranked in the top 25 in scoring: Gonzaga (9), BYU (18), Santa Clara (19), Saint Mary's (23).
This week's WCC Game of the Week features Santa Clara at San Diego at 1:00 Saturday. The contest will be preceded by "WCC This Week," and can be seen live on Time Warner Cable SportsNet Comcast SportsNet California, and ROOT Sports.
Santa Clara's Kevin Foster is the WCC's all-time three-point field goals leader with 378. The reigning WCC Player of the Week drained 12 over two road wins last week.
The popular Internet talk show WCC Live can be heard each Wednesday night at 8 p.m. PT. Hosted by Jeff Lampe, the weekly show features live interviews with WCC coaches and student athletes. Listen at blogtalkradio.com/wccsports.
San Diego sophomore guard Johnny Dee will be profiled on "WCC This Week" Saturday. Catch the show live on Time Warner Cable SportsNet, Comcast SportsNet California, and ROOT Sports.
Only five Division I teams have won at least 25 games in each of the last five seasons. Three of those teams (BYU, Gonzaga, Saint Mary's) call the WCC home. The other two: Duke, Kansas.
