Zags, Gaels rematch set for Thursday

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- Perhaps the Game of the Year in the West Coast Conference takes place on Thursday night, when No. 3/5 Gonzaga plays at Saint Mary's. These two teams have combined to win the WCC regular season title every year since 2001. In last month's meeting in Spokane, the Bulldogs held on for an 83-78 win over Saint Mary's.


  • In the latest NCAA RPI report (Feb. 10), the WCC has four teams in the Top 100: Gonzaga (12), Saint Mary's (50), BYU (60), and Santa Clara (96).

  • Thursday's marquee event pits No. 3/5 Gonzaga at Saint Mary's. The Gaels are 5-0 at home in the WCC (13-0 overall), and the Zags are 5-0 on the road in conference (7-1 overall).

  • Home court advantage certainly helps, but it doesn't mean everything. Entering this week's play, the home team has won just 23 of 49 WCC games in 2013.

  • The 2013 West Coast Conference Basketball Championships in Las Vegas are sold out. Limited single game tickets are expected to be available each game day at the Orleans Arena box office.

  • This week's WCC Game of the Week features No. 3/5 Gonzaga at San Francisco on Saturday at 1:30. The contest will be preceded by "WCC This Week," and can be seen live on Time Warner Cable SportsNet Comcast SportsNet Bay Area, and ROOT Sports.

  • The popular Internet talk show WCC Live can be heard each Wednesday night at 8 p.m. PT. Hosted by Jeff Lampe, the weekly show features live interviews with WCC coaches and student athletes. Listen at

  • San Francisco junior guard Cody Doolin will be profiled on "WCC This Week" Saturday. Catch the show leading up to the Game of the Week on Time Warner Cable SportsNet, Comcast SportsNet California, and ROOT Sports.

  • Only five Division I teams have won at least 25 games in each of the last five seasons. Three of those teams (BYU, Gonzaga, Saint Mary's) call the WCC home. The other two: Duke, Kansas.
