SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- With just four play dates remaining in the 2013 regular season, seedings for the West Coast Conference Basketball Championships next month in Las Vegas are beginning to take shape. A number of seeds can be locked up as early as this weekend.
WCC QUICK HITS
If the WCC Tournament began today, the seeds would be: 1) GON, 2) SMC, 3) BYU, 4) SCU, 5) USD, 6) USF, 7) PEP, 8) POR, 9) LMU. Seeding is critical in #WCChoops because the top two seeds get byes to the semifinals, and the 3-4 seeds receive byes to the quarterfinals.
Gonzaga will be a 1 or 2 seed in the 2013 West Coast Conference Championships. With a win Thursday over BYU, Saint Mary's would clinch the other top two seed.
Home court advantage certainly helps, but it doesn't mean everything. Entering this week's play, the home team has won just 27 of 57 WCC games in 2013.
The 2013 West Coast Conference Basketball Championships in Las Vegas are sold out. Limited single game tickets are expected to be available each game day at the Orleans Arena box office.
This week's Game of the Week features Santa Clara at Portland on Saturday at 2:00. The game will be preceded by "WCC This Week," and can be seen live on Time Warner Cable SportsNet, Comcast SportsNet California, and ROOT Sports.
The popular Internet talk show WCC Live can be heard each Wednesday night at 8 p.m. PT. Hosted by Jeff Lampe, the weekly show features live interviews with WCC coaches and student athletes. Listen at blogtalkradio.com/wccsports.
Santa Clara senior Marc Trasolini will be profiled on "WCC This Week" Saturday. Catch the show leading up to the Game of the Week on Time Warner Cable SportsNet, Comcast SportsNet California, and ROOT Sports.
Only five Division I teams have won at least 25 games in each of the last five seasons. Three of those teams (BYU, Gonzaga, Saint Mary's) call the WCC home. The other two: Duke, Kansas.
