San Francisco Accepts Bid to CIT

March 10, 2011

SAN FRANCISCO - USF men's basketball will make its first postseason appearance since 2005 when it hosts Idaho in the opening round of the 2011 Postseason Tournament (CIT) Wednesday, March 16 on the Hilltop. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM from War Memorial Gym.

USF (17-14) will take on the Idaho (18-13) for the first time in postseason play and the first time since taking an 86-85 decision in Hawaii at the 1992 Big Island Classic (12/29/92). The Dons and Vandals are tied 2-2 in the all-time series which started in 1939.

"I'm just really happy for our guys," USF head coach Rex Walters said. "They put an awful lot into the season and to see them get rewarded means a lot. It's a great opportunity for us to get better as a team and better as a program. Hopefully it will give our fans the chance to watch us play again. We are going to play a good team in Idaho. There are so many positives that can come out of this if we approach it the right way."

San Francisco fell in the semifinals of the 2011 West Coast Conference Tournament to eventual champion Gonzaga (71-67), while Idaho bowed to San Jose State today in the WAC Tournament quarterfinals (74-68).

This will be the second appearance for the Dons in the last six years, and first since 2005 when it played in the Postseason NIT. USF dispatched Denver 69-67 in the play-in game before falling to Cal State Fullerton 85-69. The game against the Pioneers was the first postseason men's basketball game ever played at War Memorial Gym.
