2009-10 WCC Men's Basketball Schedule Highlighted by 19 Games On ESPN's Family of Networks

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - West Coast Conference Commissioner Jamie Zaninovich announced the 2009-10 WCC men's basketball schedule, highlighted by 19 games that will be televised nationally on the ESPN family of networks. For the second straight year, WCC games will be broadcast nationally on ESPN's "Thursday Night Showcase". ESPN, the exclusive national television provider of the West Coast Conference, will broadcast 12 WCC games on ESPN or ESPN2 with an additional seven games showcased on ESPNU. "We are thrilled to once again be a part of ESPN's Thursday Night Showcase," said Zaninovich. "We value our long-standing relationship with ESPN and are excited to feature the brand of basketball that is played in the WCC on the ESPN family of networks." The WCC will make its first of six appearances on "Thursday Night Showcase" on Jan. 14 when Gonzaga travels to rival Saint Mary's for a showdown in Moraga, CA on ESPN2. Also featured on ESPN's "Thursday Night Showcase" will be Gonzaga at Santa Clara (1/28 - ESPN2), Portland at Gonzaga (2/4 - ESPN2), Saint Mary's at Gonzaga (2/11 - ESPN), Saint Mary's at San Diego (2/18 - ESPN2), and Santa Clara at Gonzaga (2/25 - ESPN2). In addition, ESPN2 will broadcast both WCC Tournament men's semifinal games for the fifth consecutive season and the men's championship game will be broadcast in primetime on ESPN. For the second consecutive season, three WCC teams advanced to the postseason. Gonzaga, the WCC regular season and tournament champion, earned a No. 4 seed in the NCAA Tournament and reached the Sweet Sixteen before falling to eventually national champion North Carolina. Saint Mary's, which finished as runner-up to Gonzaga in the regular season and in the WCC Tournament, advanced to the quarterfinals of the NIT, while Portland was invited to play in the inaugural Collegeinsider.com Tournament. Additional men's basketball telecasts will be arranged and announced by the conference's eight member institutions. The dates and times of these broadcasts will be posted on WCCsports.com as they become available.
