#WCCHOOPS QUICK HITS

  • Freshman guard Zach Norvell Jr. of Gonzaga is named WCC Player of the Week. STORY
  • After a strong victory against No. 25 Creighton, Gonzaga moved up three spots in the AP poll to No. 12 and one spot in the USA Today Coaches poll to No. 13. The Zags have been ranked in both polls for 24 consecutive weeks.
  • The WCC will be well represented in some of college basketball’s signature non-conference tournaments this season. BYU: Barclays Center Classic; Gonzaga: PK80 Invitational, Jimmy V Classic; Portland: PK80 Invitational;Saint Mary’s: Wooden Legacy; Santa Clara: Great Alaska Shootout
  • Senior center Jock Landale of Saint Mary’s and senior forward Johnathan Williams of Gonzaga were named to both the Naismith Trophy Preseason Watch List and the Wooden Award Preseason Top-50.
  • The 2018 West Coast Conference Basketball Championships will celebrate its 10-Year Anniversary in Las Vegas in March. The WCC will commemorate the “Decade in the Desert” with special programming including top-moments, all-decade all-tournament teams and more throughout the 2017-18 #WCChoops regular season.
  • A minimum of 36 men’s basketball games involving West Coast Conference programs will air nationally on an ESPN network this season, including additional exposures during the 2018 West Coast Conference Basketball Championship in Las Vegas.
  • For the fourth straight year, the WCC will broadcast every game during league play on a national or regional level, and/or produced for broadcast on the conference’s digital network, TheW.tv.
  • For the second consecutive season, two #WCChoops teams entered the 2017-18 campaign ranked in the both the AP and USA Today Coaches polls.Gonzaga checked in at No. 18/19 and Saint Mary’s was No. 22/22.

 

 

#WCCHOOPS NON-CONFERENCE NOTABLES

  • The string of two WCC teams in the top-25 of both polls was halted after a 22-week run when Saint Mary’s fell out of the Nov. 27 top-25 and into the “Receiving Votes” category in both the AP and USA Today Coaches Poll.
  • Gonzaga moved up to No. 12/13 Dec. 4, extending its run of consecutive weeks in the national polls to 24.
  • Since 2011-12, Gonzaga owns a 39-3 November record. The Zags are 89-16 overall under Mark Few during November action.
  • The Zags have shot better from the field than 52 of their last 53 opponents.
  • San Diego equaled its best start (5-0) since posting an identical start to the 2013-14 and 1990-91 squads.
  • Saint Mary’s Jock Landale set a Wooden Legacy record with 16 field goals against Georgia (11/26) en route to a career-high 33 points. Arizona State’s James Harden & Portland’s Alec Wintering held the previous record of 14 set against CSU Northridge (11/27/16).
  • Landale’s 33 points against the Bulldogs was the fourth-highest tally in tournament history. Santa Clara’s Jared Brownridge owns the top spot with 44 points in a 75-73 overtime loss to No. 11 Arizona.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY
In 2018, the West Coast Conference will celebrate the 10-Year Anniversary of its basketball championships in Las Vegas. The WCC will commemorate the “Decade in the Desert” with special programming throughout the course of the 2017-18 #WCChoops regular season including top-moments, all-decade all-tournament teams and more. The 2018 WCC Men’s Basketball Championship runs from March 2-6, 2018 at the Orleans Arena. Ticket details will be released in January.
