Portland, Ore.--- Portland Pilots sophomore midfielder Steven Evans, the reigning West Coast Conference Player of the Week, has been named the National Player of the Week by both the NSCAA and Soccer News Net. Since returning from injury last week, Evans has registered three goals and two assists to help the Pilots win three straight games.

Evans also landed on the College Soccer News Team of the Week.

Evans, who missed the first five games this season due to an injury, made his 2011 debut during Portland's 1-0 win at Washington last Wednesday night. Evans scored the game-winner against the Huskies with only 56 seconds remaining in regulation.

The Portland native then went on to nab Offensive MVP honors at the Husky Fever Classic during the weekend as the Pilots defeated No. 20 Alabama Birmingham 3-2 in Seattle on Friday and Houston Baptist 3-1 on Sunday. He had an assist against the Blazers, and he had two goals and an assist against HBU. After playing only three games, Evans already leads the team in both goals and points (8).

Evans and the Pilots open play in the WCC this week with a pair of games in the Bay Area. Portland is set to play at Santa Clara on Friday night and at San Francisco on Sunday afternoon.
