LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Senior Matt Kovar and sophomore Bobby Burling were named NSCAA Far West Region All-Americans, announced today. Kovar was named to the first team, while Burling was a third team honoree. It is the second time that Kovar has been named a Far West Region All-American, earning third team honors in 2002. It is the first All-American honor for Burling.

Kovar, the WCC's Defender of the Year, was LMU's top defender this season. The first-team All-WCC selection helped the Lions limit opponents to no more than two goals during WCC play. He had two goals and five assists this year, and four of his assists were in conference play. His second goal of the year tied the game in the final minutes against Saint Mary's, and he assisted on two game winning goals against Portland and San Diego. He tied for fifth for assists in conference games, and recorded 24 shots on the year. He was named the WCC Player of the Week, and to Soccer America's Team of the Week after leading the defense to two shutouts wins over Gonzaga and Portland.

Burling finished the season with three goals and four assists on the year. The tall physical forward started 21 of 22 games for the Lions. He scored two goals in LMU's 4-2 win over San Diego, including the game-winner, and added a goal against Wake Forest. He assisted on the game-winning goal in LMU's 1-0 win over Portland, and recorded assists over Southwest Missouri State, Saint Mary's and Portland.

The Lions finished the season with a 11-8-3 record, and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Lions finished second in the conference with an 8-3-1 record.

All players on the regional All-American teams are now eligible for the national All-American teams to be released later this month.
