MEN’S TENNIS SINGLES PLAYER OF THE WEEK
ILYA OSINTSEV, JR., SANTA CLARA
Ilya Osintsev helped the Broncos increase their winning streak to five matches by defeating No. 57 San Diego State 6-1, Santa Clara’s highest-ranked opponent of the season (No. 2 USC). Playing at No. 2 singles on Thursday, Osintsev had a tough battle against Hunter Nicholas. The Bronco lefty won the first set 6-3 before Nicholas stepped up with a 6-3 second set. Osintsev won the match in a third-set tiebreaker.

On Sunday, Santa Clara faced another challenging opponent in No. 69 New Mexico, winners of four consecutive matches. Osintsev defeated Hayden Sabatka 6-3, 6-3 for the Broncos’ first singles win. Santa Clara posted a 4-1 victory against the Lobos, pushing its overall record to 7-1 – the best start for the program in 15 years. MEN’S TENNIS DOUBLES TEAM OF THE WEEK
FRANCIS ALCANTARA, SR./ALEX SARKISSIAN, SR., PEPPERDINE
Pepperdine’s senior duo of Francis Alcantara and Alex Sarkissian continued their dominance this week, going 2-0 with another win over a top-10 ranked opponent and vaulted into the top-10 doubles ranking nationally in the process. Alcantara and Sarkissian opened the week at Loyola Marymount, where the duo edged Todd Volmari and Sebastian Bustamante in the tiebreaker to clinch the doubles point for Pepperdine. It was the sixth time the senior duo had clinched the doubles point in a must-win situation for the Waves this season.

The week continued with a visit to No. 4 UCLA, where Alcantara and Sarkissian faced No. 9 Marcos Giron and Mackenzie McDonald. Although the Waves had lost to the Bruin pair the week prior – Alcantara and Sarkissian’s only loss in dual play this season – Pepperdine paid the Bruins back for the loss, winning 8-5 on Saturday. The Wave tandem is now 8-1 on the dual season, including two wins over top-10 ranked pairs. In addition to this week’s win over Giron and McDonald, Alcantara and Sarkissian also own a 6-3 win over No. 1-ranked Hunter Reese and Mikelis Libietis of Tennessee. Alcantara and Sarkissian are No. 7 in this week’s ITA poll.
