No. 6 BYU Slated to Keep WCC Championship
BYU enters 2017 picked by WCC coaches to win its third consecutive West Coast Conference championship and fifth since 2011
SAN BRUNO, Calif. – BYU enters 2017 picked by WCC coaches to win its third consecutive West Coast Conference championship and fifth since 2011. The Cougars, ranked No. 6 in this year’s USTFCCCA Preseason Poll, finished seventh nationally last year and third in the Mountain Region.
BYU tallied 64 points including eight first place votes, while No. 14 Portland captured 57 points and one first place vote. Gonzaga earned 47 points for third place, narrowly beating out San Francisco, who followed with 45. Loyola Marymount placed fifth with 33 votes and sixth-place Saint Mary’s earned 30. Santa Clara (25), Pepperdine (13) and San Diego (10) rounded out the standings.
BYU led the way with six runners placed on the All-WCC Preseason Team, followed by Portland with two. The last two spots were Gabe Arias-Sheridan of Saint Mary’s, who comes off a national championship appearance, and Dillon Quintana of Gonzaga.
The 2017 WCC Championship race will be held Friday, October 27 at the Metropolitan Links Golf Course in Oakland, Calif.
