SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- For the second time in three seasons, the West Coast Conference will send multiple teams to the NCAA Tournament, as the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Committee unveiled its bracket on Monday afternoon. Two West Coast Conference teams – BYU and Gonzaga - will compete in the field of 64, both in the Lincoln Region.
West Coast Conference regular season and tournament champion Gonzaga University (29-4 overall, 16-2 WCC) earned the No. 6 seed and will open play against No. 11 James Madison (28-5) Sunday in College Station, Texas. This season marks Gonzaga's sixth straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament and its seed is the highest in program history. The Bulldogs won the WCC Tournament with a 71-57 victory against BYU.
BYU (26-6 overall, 14-4 WCC) earned an at-large bid to the NCAA field and will make its second March Madness trip in three seasons. The Cougars collected a No. 12 seed in the West Region and will face No. 5 North Carolina State (25-7) on Saturday in Los Angeles.
