Pepperdine Selected to Repeat as West Coast Conference Champions

SAN BRUNO, CA -- Pepperdine has been selected to repeat as the West Coast Conference women's golf champion in a preseason poll of the WCC's six head coaches. The Waves received four first place votes in the poll (coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team). Pepperdine led all WCC teams with four golfers on the all-conference team.

Pepperdine's preseason all-conference selections are senior Kaitlin Drolson and sophomores Liv Cheng, Danielle Gillaspy and Grace Na. Na won the 2011 WCC individual title. Her victory was the 10th individual conference title in a row for the Waves.

Gonzaga University was picked to finish second in the WCC. The Bulldogs received one first place vote. The University of San Francisco was picked to finish third. Junior Emily Chiu and sophomore Peppiina Kaija are the Dons' representatives on the preseason All-WCC team.

WCC-newcomer BYU was picked to finish fourth in the conference. Senior Maggie Yuan and sophomore Amanda Keith were selected to the all-conference team. Yuan finished in the top five at the 2011 Mountain West Women's Golf Championship.

Santa Clara and Seattle round out the coaches' preseason poll. Santa Clara senior Tamara Surtees was selected to the all-conference team. Seattle senior Caitlin McCleary, who was a 2011 All-WCC Honorable Mention, was also named to the squad.
