The USF women's golf team will compete in the Peg Barnard Invitational this Friday and Saturday at the Stanford Golf Course against some of the top teams in the country.

In the two round event the Dons, who are currently ranked #35 in the nation in the golfstat.com rankings, will get to face a deep field that includes #9 Stanford, #19 Denver, #28 San Jose State and #42 Hawaii, along with UC Davis, Washington State, Oregon State, Fresno State, Long Beach State, Portland State, Eastern Washington and WCC rival Santa Clara.

"We have a great opportunity to compete against some of the teams we could see in the Western Regional," said head coach Josh Cupp. "To be able to play against these teams gives us a chance to see how we stack up against some of the top teams in the country."

The team, which is looking for its fifth NCAA Regional berth in program history and fifth berth in the last seven seasons, will be led by junior Jessica Potter and senior Kristin Nichols. Potter and Nichols led the Dons with second and third place finishes at the 2007 Duck invitational, an event that the Dons won two weeks ago. Last year in the Peg Barnard Invitational, Potter shot a 143 (72, 71) to earn runner-up honors behind Irene Cho from Southern California.

The Peg Barnard will be the final tune-up for the Dons before the WCC Championships which will be played April 18 and 19 at La Purisima Golf Course in Lompoc, CA. For complete results from the weekend golf action please check back at www.usfdons.com
