West Coast Conference women's golfers prepare for WCC golf championships next week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- The 2012 WCC Golf Championships will take place at the San Juan Oaks Golf Club from Monday, April 16 to April 18. Golfers will play 18 holes a day for three days, differing from from last year's two-day format that included 36 holes on the final day.

  • Pepperdine freshman Alina Ching was the WCC Women's Golf Player of the Month for February and March. Ching had a pair of second-place finishes at both the Bruin Wave Invitational and the `Anuenue Spring Break Classic.

  • In its final competition of the regular season, BYU finished second at the Anteater Invitational on March 28 in Dove Canyon, Calif. Sophomore Annika Afoa (10-over 223), freshman Lauren Atkinson (12-over 225) and senior Maggie Yuan (18-over 231) tied for fifth, tied for seventh and tied for 19th, respectively, in the individual competition, helping BYU to its best finish of the season.

  • Gonzaga freshman Alice Kim won the second annual Gonzaga Spring Individual women's golf tournament on April 8. Sophomore Tai Jade Kliebphipat finished in second for the Bulldogs.

  • Pepperdine held off top-ranked UCLA and won the 2012 Bruin Wave Invitational in March in Tarzana, Calif. Freshman Alina Ching paced the Waves with a second-place finish by shooting 223 (74-69-80). 2011 WCC Player of the year sophomore Grace Na tied for third at 224 (71-74-79).

  • San Francisco finished second at the Bison Challenge in Las Vegas, Nev. in March. Sophomore Victoria House paced the Dons with a third place finish at 153 (75, 78).

  • Santa Clara sophomore Taylor Camany and junior Balbina Guajardo tied for 16th at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic in Chandler, Ariz. on April 11. The Broncos tied for ninth as a team.

  • Seattle senior Caitlin McCleary tied for 16th at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic in Chandler, Ariz. on April 11. McCleary shot a final round 75 to finish with a total score of 225 at the three-day tournament.
