Pepperdine's Carolina Llano Named to NGCA All-American Scholar Team
July 17, 2006
Malibu, Calif. - Senior Carolina Llano, who helped lead the Pepperdine women's golf team to a third place showing at the 2006 NCAA Division I Championships this past spring, was named to the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) Division I All-American Scholar Team, it was announced on Monday.
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent of all college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 50 percent of the college's regularly-scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
Earlier this spring, Llano was tabbed an Academic All-American by the NGCA.
Llano, who also was selected to the West Coast Conference's (WCC) All-Academic Team, placed second on the Waves with a 74.18 stroke average in 30 rounds. She posted six Top 20 finishes, including four Top 10s.
In addition to her success on the course, Llano excelled in the classroom despite participating in a sport that misses significant class time. She is majoring in international business and will graduate in December.
In Llano's four seasons at Pepperdine, the Waves have finished in the Top 5 at the NCAA Championships three times, finishing second (2003), fourth (2005) and third (2006).
