WEST COAST CONFERENCE CREW OF THE MONTH (APRIL): GONZAGA – VARSITY EIGHT

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has announced the WCC Crew of the Month for April.

The Gonzaga varsity eight had an impressive month of April on the water, as the Zags prepare to pursue their 17th West Coast Conference Championship on May 12.

The Bulldogs started the month at the Lake Natoma Invitational on April 14 and 15 in Gold River, Calif., the site of the WCC Championships.  In their first four-boat race, GU edged (RV) Notre Dame at 6:33.0 for a second-place finish in flat conditions, in what was at the time their fastest time of the spring.  In the afternoon, they beat WCC-rival San Diego by 19 seconds at 6:41.4, coming in behind No. 2 Cal and No. 8 Brown against 3-5 mph variable winds.

Gonzaga came back stronger on Sunday, taking the win in a four-boat race against Alabama, Sacramento State, and San Diego, finishing at 6:56.6, seven seconds ahead of Alabama, the second consecutive season they won a heat at the invite, this year fighting 10-15 mph variable winds.

After a weekend off, the Zags faced off against No. 15 Washington State in the Fawley Cup on Silver Lake outside of Spokane on April 28.  The Cougars edged the Zags, but GU set their fastest time of the spring at 6:29.66, just five seconds behind WSU in a 10-12 mph cross tailwind in progressively increasing chop.

GONZAGA II VARSITY EIGHT: Alexa Jadallah, Lauren English, Carolina Maguire, Lindsey English, Isabelle Belzil, Lauren McCallum, Zoe Calambokidis, Charlotte Lepp, Megan Seifert

Also Nominated: San Diego I Eight
