Pepperdine’s Van Horn Named WCC Player of the Week
Senior defender scored a goal and led backline that limited Pilots to two shots
SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Pepperdine senior defender Jamie Van Horn has been named the West Coast Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
Van Horn played a key role as the Waves captured the 2017 WCC title with a 4-0 victory over Portland in the team's only game this week.
The central defender, who was honored as part of the pregame Senior Day ceremonies, was crucial in the Waves' shutout effort defensively, holding Portland to just two late shot attempts. The Pilots didn't get a single shot off in the first 80+ minutes.
Van Horn also contributed offensively, converting a penalty kick in the second half for her second goal of the season. Her efforts helped Pepperdine extend its school record with its 13th shutout of the season, and its eighth in nine WCC games.
