Pepperdine, San Diego Claim Women's Tennis Weekly Honors

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - The West Coast Conference has named Pepperdine's Luisa Stefani the West Coast Conference Women's Singles Player of the Week and the San Diego duo of Gemma Garcia and Carolin Nonnenmacher the Women's Doubles Team of the Week.

Stefani anchored the 6th-ranked Waves in the No. 1 singles position, helping her team to a 7-0 defeat of UC Santa Barbara after defeating First Team All-Big West opponent Palina Dubavets 6-1, 6-2.  She was the first Wave to finish her singles match to put Pepperdine at a 2-0 advantage late in the short match.

It is the third consecutive season that Stefani was awarded the first Singles Player of the Week honor of the season.

Garcia and Nonnenmacher went 2-0 on the week for San Diego playing at No. 3 doubles.  On Feb. 2 the duo earned a 6-0 win over Grand Canyon's Lo Pumo and Prudhomme. The next day, against unbeaten Arizona, they defeated Van Aelst and Heynemans, 6-4.
