SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named Pepperdine’s Ashley Lahey the West Coast Conference Women’s Singles Player of the Week and the Waves duo of Lahey and Mayar Sherif the Women’s Doubles Team of the Week.

Lahey was instrumental in the Waves’ wins throughout the weekend at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, advancing her team to its first-ever championship match. She went 2-0 against three ranked opponents with two match-clinching victories for the Waves in the No. 1 position. In the first match, she went undecided through three-sets of action against No. 49 Jaeda Daniel of No. 12-ranked Auburn as the Waves went on to win 4-2. Then against No. 7 Georgia Tech, she bested No. 24 Paige Hourigan to clinch Pepperdine’s 4-2 victory in the quarterfinal bout with a 1-6, 7-6 (2), 6-2 win in the No. 1 position. Then she put down No. 51 Astra Sharma with a 7-5, 6-7 (3), 6-1 win to once again clinch the Waves’ win over No. 2 Vanderbilt and sent her team to the ITA National Team Indoor final.

The pair first downed No. 12 Auburn’s Alizee Michaud with a solid 7-6 (4) victory to clinch the doubles point en route to the Waves’ 4-2 win in the opening round. Then in the quarterfinal bout against No. 7 Georgia Tech, the duo downed No. 3 Paige Hourigan and Kenya Jones 6-4 to put the Waves’ in doubles point clinching territory towards the 4-2 Waves’ win. Then, in the semifinal match against No. 2 Vanderbilt, the pair defeated No. 31 Astra Sharma and Fernanda Contreras with a 7-5 mark. The Waves went on to defeat the Commodores 4-3 to advance to the ITA National Team Indoor final match-up Monday against No. 5 North Carolina.
