Gonzaga Sweeps Women's Tennis Weekly Honors

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named Gonzaga’s Nevada Apollo the West Coast Conference Women’s Singles Player of the Week and the Zags duo of Apollo and Ashleigh Jacobs the Women’s Doubles Team of the Week.

Apollo went 3-0 last week in the Zags’ No. 3 singles spot and helped Gonzaga to a perfect week with wins over Seattle U, Montana and Eastern Washington. The junior didn’t lose a set in her three matches and was the fourth and clinching point against Seattle U and Montana in a doubleheader last Friday. Apollo is now 4-2 in dual matches and 13-3 overall on the year after earning wins of 6-3, 6-4 (Seattle), 6-3, 6-1 (Montana) and 7-5, 6-4 (Eastern Washington). 

Apollo and Jacobs won both of their matches to go 2-0 in Gonzaga’s unbeaten week at the No. 2 position, while Jacobs was on the court in the third match with a different playing partner and collected yet another win. The duo of Apollo and Jacobs was the clinching match to gain the doubles point for Gonzaga both times out. The pair is a combined 3-1 together in dual match play and 8-3 overall on the season.
