WCC Women's Volleyball Starts 2012 Season on High Note

SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- West Coast Conference women's volleyball will continue on to its second week of play on Friday, August 31. For more information about WCC women's volleyball, please visit one of the above links.


  • Santa Clara won four straight matches in Southern Illinois to start off the season with a 4-0 run. The Broncos swept Saint Louis and Western Illinois and defeated Montana State and host SIUE by scores of 3-2 and 3-1, respectively.

  • BYU leads the conference in hitting percentage, assists and kills after stringing together three impressive wins at the Rice Invitational. The Cougars swept all of their opponents over the weekend and were led by WCC Player of the Week Jennifer Hamson, who was also named the Rice Invitational MVP after leading the tournament in points per set (5.50), kills per set (4.89) and hitting percentage (.528).

  • San Francisco finished second at the UniWyo Invitational, as the Dons went 3-1 over the weekend, blanking their last two opponents Seattle and Presbyterian. For their efforts, sophomore Valentina Zaloznik and senior Jocelyn Levig were named to the All-Tournament Team.

  • Pepperdine tallied its first win over a ranked opponent this season with a 3-0 victory over then-No. 7 Illinois at the Dayton Flyer Classic last Saturday. The Waves were led by sophomore Samantha Cash's 14 kills.

  • Non-conference play continues with multiple matches on Friday and Saturday of this week, highlighted by a matchup between San Diego and Long Beach State. San Diego is currently ranked No. 20 in the AVCA poll while Long Beach State continues to receive votes.
