SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- West Coast Conference women's volleyball will start conference play this week on Thursday, September 22. Four matches will take place that evening, while four more are scheduled for Saturday.
QUICK HITSSeven of nine WCC teams finished non-conference play
above .500. However, Portland and Santa Clara, who finished
just short of that, closed out the non-conference
season with two consecutive wins.
San Diego and Pepperdine still remain ranked in the AVCA
Top 25 Coaches Poll at No. 16 and 19, respectively. The
Toreros went undefeated in non-conference play (13-0,
the best start in program history). Pepperdine is currently
6-5 after a tough non-conference schedule.
BYU's 10-match win streak was broken by a 3-1 loss to Cal
State Fullerton on the road. However, the Cougars came
back to win the following day at Cal State Northridge, 3-1,
behind Jennifer Hamson's second double-double of the
weekend. Hamson threw down 16 kills and 13 digs against
CSUN and still leads the conference in kills with 202 this
After starting out the season with three losses, the San
Francisco Dons have come back to put together eight wins
over 10 matches to bring their non-conference record to
8-5. The Dons have recently swept four of their last five
opponents, including Cal Poly, UNLV and Fresno State.
Conference play begins this Thursday at 6:00 PM PT,
featured by a showdown between Saint Mary's and BYU,
televised on BYUtv. Check out the upcoming schedule for all
