SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- West Coast Conference women's volleyball continue conference play this week on Thursday, September 29. Four matches will take place that evening along with one non-conference match, while four more WCC contests are scheduled for Saturday.
QUICK HITSSan Francisco began conference play with a solid 2-0
start after snapping San Diego's 13-match win streak with
a 3-0 upset and rolling past Saint Mary's, 3-1, on the road.
Freshman opposite hitter Vendula Strakova averaged a
team-high 4.57 kills on .247 hitting on the weekend. The
native of Brno, Czech Republic tallied match-high 13 kills
on .323 hitting in USF's sweep of the Toreros and added a
game-high 19 kills with 13 digs at Saint Mary's.
San Diego's Katie Hoekman leads the conference in hitting
percentage with a .409 this season. In conference play alone,
BYU's Jennifer Hamson tops the list with a .550 clip, while
Hoekman lands in second with a .525 average.
LMU's win over Portland was the Lions' first match to
go five sets this year. With the win, LMU swept a pair of
matches to conclude an 11-match road trip. Senior Jasmine
Rankins led the Lions with 17 kills on 45 attacks for a .378

San Diego and Pepperdine still remain ranked in the
AVCA Top 25 Coaches Poll at No. 18 and 19, respectively.
Entering the second week of conference play, October 1st
marks the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. All nine
teams will host "DigPink" matches throughout the month
to promote breast cancer education and donations for the
Side-Out Foundation and other local organizations.
