San Diego, Pepperdine Remain in AVCA Coaches Poll Top 20

SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- West Coast Conference women's volleyball will continue conference play this week on Thursday, October 20.


  • With her final kill of the match, senior Lilla Frederick became Pepperdine's 16th member of the 1,000 kills club in the 3-1 win over San Francisco. She is the second Wave to reach the 1,000 career kills milestone this season, joining fellow senior Kim Hill. With 982 career digs, Frederick is also on pace to reach the 1,000 digs milestone.

  • San Diego moved up one spot to No. 16 in the latest AVCA top-25 poll after picking up a pair of WCC wins over Saint Mary's and Loyola Marymount. Both San Diego and No. 17 Pepperdine are riding seven-match win streaks.

  • San Diego's Katie Hoekman currently leads the conference in hitting percentage with a .412 clip on the season and .445 average in conference matches. BYU's Jennifer Hamson leads the conference in kills this season (299), while San Francisco's Vendula Strakova tops the charts for kills in WCC matches (101).

  • Conference play this week started yesterday with a Monday evening match between BYU and Gonzaga. After a 3-1 win at Portland last Saturday, the Cougars travelled to Gonzaga to pick up another WCC win in four sets with a final score of 25-23, 25-8, 25-27, 25-19. BYU is now 5-2 in conference matches.

  • Entering the fifth week of conference play, Santa Clara and BYU will host "DigPink" matches to promote breast cancer awareness and education.
