San Diego’s Gengenbacher Named WCC Volleyball Player of the Week
Senior set Toreros to road upset at No. 8 BYU
SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named its Volleyball Player of the Week for October 30, 2017.
WEST COAST CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – KRISTEN GENGENBACHER, SR., S – SAN DIEGO
Senior setter Kristen Gengenbacher powered No. 18 San Diego to an impressive road triumph at No. 8 BYU and seized West Coast Conference Player of the Week honors in the process. Gengenbacher helped the Toreros snap the Cougars’ 47-match home winning streak against WCC foes and became just the third team overall since 2011 to win in Provo.
Gengenbacher entered play ranked in the top-25 among NCAA Division I leaders in assists per game and boosted it averaging 13.8 assists per set against the Cougars to go along with 2.3 digs and 1.1 kills. For the season, the senior averages 11.38 per set, good for 17th nationally.
In Provo, Gengenbacher orchestrated an offense hitting at a sizzling .299 clip for the match and distributed at least five kills to six different attackers, including four in double-digits. With the top-10 triumph, San Diego now sits atop the WCC standings with BYU at 11-1 in league action.
