SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has announced its Women's Cross Country All-Academic Team for the 2018 season, encompassing WCC student-athletes who excelled this year both on the course and in the classroom.
Five of the ten WCC institutions were represented on this year’s squad. WCC runners-up No. 19 Portland led the way with four spots, two of which are no stranger to earning All-Academic honors. Lauren LaRocco and Courtney Cox earned their third and second honor respectively for the Pilots, with Cox now appearing on back-to-back teams.
San Francisco’s Tatjana Schulte, one of five runners making repeat appearances on this year’s team, joined LaRocco in making three career WCC All-Academic lists. Schulte and teammate Lizzie Bird both achieved perfect 4.00 GPA’s in 2018. Individual WCC champion Erica Birk-Jarvis of No. 2 BYU was one of five newcomers.
An unprecendented 44 student-athletes achieved a GPA of 3.50 or higher while 29 met or exceeded the 3.75 mark. Both stand as WCC records.
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to her team.
