SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Gonzaga senior defender Ariana Pumpelly has been named the West Coast Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
In her final game in a Gonzaga uniform, Pumpelly help the Zag defense record their seventh shutout of a season in a 1-0 win over Portland Saturday. The win marked Gonzaga’s first-ever win over Portland, and it was the Bulldogs’ 10
th win of the season as Gonzaga limited the Pilots to just three shots on goal over 90 minutes.
Pumpelly has been a centerpiece in a defense that has allowed only 18 goals this season, which ranks second in the West Coast Conference. With the shutout victory, Gonzaga earns its second-best ever finish in the WCC standings after taking fourth overall with a 5-2-2 record.
